Wish you were here album discussion

The follow up to dark side of the moon delivers and meets expectations. The album opener shine on you crazy diamond pts 1-5 is a masterpiece. It has a slow build up but it is such a great and iconic build-up with some of the best guitar playing in a pink Floyd song that makes listening to it in its entirety worth it. The guitar playing conveys the emotion in the song so well. The song is about syd barret the founder of pink Floyd who was kicked from the iconic band in April 1968 due to him sadly going crazy mentally and resulting in being in a all time low mentally. It is a absolutely brilliant song their are so many varying stages in the song elements of jazz also thrown in the track. Overall i would say it is the best song on the album and should forever be remembered for its legacy.

Welcome to the machine makes you feel like you're on a journey. It is not actually about Syd barret but its actually about record labels in general. It includes many elements of electronica because of the synth noises in the song. Welcome to the machine is very atmospheric and just a wild ride of a song.

Have a cigar is my least favorite song on the album i still love it though but its just less captivating as all the other songs on wish you were here. It does break the album up well and is a fun song to listen to its very catchy but it just does not fit this album that well and it feels like it has less emotional depth and meaning to it then the other songs seem to have. I do enjoy it just does not stick with you in the same way as the other songs do its more forgettable and less musically complex.

Wish you were here is a classic pink floyd song it takes more of a acoustic laid back route /approach then all the other songs do. Its more laid back and is stripped of much synthesizers that other songs have. But it feels well placed in the album and relates to a lot of people going through grief and death. It is not my favorite song on the album but it stands out because of how different it is to other songs in that it is more acoustic.

The final song on the album shine on you crazy diamond parts 5-9 is not as great as parts 1-5 are but its great too its strange that its not straight after the first shine on song in the album placement. I like that it is separated from the first part it keeps it fresh diverse and keeps the album from becoming boring and stale which putting them next to each other in the album would do. Their are enough changes between both parts to keep them individually interesting and are stand out tracks.

Overall this album is stunning in the musically aspect i would put it has as my third favorite pink floyd album that opinion might change in the near or late future.
