In joy divisions small catalogue this album seems to be the most iconic and acclaimed album out of the 2 albums they have. This album came out in 1979 influencing Britpop music to come later on in the 90s.
The first song on unknown pleasures disorder is the most popular song on unknown pleasures not my favorite song on this album i think the vocals are a bit weak on this song and dont suit this song as well as other songs on this album do. I think the next song day of the lords suits Ian Curtis voice a bit better because of the dark instrumental it suits his dark voice tone in the song very well. The song is very relistenable I love the guitar its so dark and moody creating an atmosphere.
Candidate is another menacing sounding song with thought provoking lyrics that are very catchy. Reading the lyrics and meanings on genius I think its about running for politics or something along those lines.
New dawn fades has a great crunchy guitar riff that kicks the song to life. It also has great switch ups with the guitar throughout the song because its a longer song.
She's lost control is a song about a women who Ian the singer encountered who had a lack of control over her own body. The bass is so great on this song I love how they make it such a key part of their music its makes the music so much more enjoyable.
Shadowplay has a great melody to it in great too real. The rest is great for similar reasons. Peter hook with amazing bass as always and the band really showing their talent in this classic debut album from 1979. It gets better on second listen and beyond once you get used to his voice. Definitely give this album a listen if you have not already.
